Shebshi Mountains (Nigeria)

Weather…

The Shebshi Mountains are a mountain range in eastern Nigeria, located within Adamawa State, and form a prominent part of the Nigeria-Cameroon border highlands. The relief is characterized by a rugged mountain massif, with its highest peak, Dimlang (formerly known as Mount Vogel), reaching an elevation of 2,042 meters. Geologically, the mountains are primarily composed of Precambrian granites and gneisses, shaped by tectonic uplift and subsequent erosion over geological eras. The range functions as an important watershed between the Benue River system and the rivers flowing toward the southeast. Due to its remote location and challenging terrain, the region is sparsely populated and has preserved much of its natural vegetation, including montane forests and high-altitude savannas. The climate at higher elevations is significantly cooler than in the surrounding Benue Trough, highlighting the region's ecological uniqueness and making it a vital area for biodiversity conservation.
