Agadem Oil Field (Niger)

Weather…

The Agadem oil field in eastern Niger, located in the Diffa region on the edge of the Sahara, is the powerhouse of the nation's oil industry. Systematic development began following a 2008 agreement with the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). Since then, hundreds of wells have been drilled, confirming significant reserves of high-quality crude oil. While production initially focused on supplying the SORAZ refinery in Zinder, the strategic focus has now shifted toward large-scale international exports. To facilitate this, a monumental 1,900-kilometer export pipeline was constructed, linking the Agadem basin to the Atlantic coast at the port of Sèmè-Kpodji in Benin. The Agadem block comprises several highly productive fields, such as Gouméry, Sokor, and Agadi, which have positioned Niger as an emerging player in the African petroleum sector. Oil revenues are now essential to the national budget, funding critical infrastructure and social development projects across the country.
