Hoge Veluwe (Netherlands)

Weather…

De Hoge Veluwe National Park in the province of Gelderland is one of the largest and most significant nature reserves in the Netherlands. It was established in the early 20th century by Anton and Helene Kröller-Müller as a private hunting estate and countryside retreat. Spanning roughly 55 square kilometers, the park features a diverse landscape of heathlands, sand drifts, and dense forests. At the heart of the park lies the Kröller-Müller Museum, which houses a major collection of Vincent van Gogh’s works and an expansive sculpture garden. Another architectural highlight is the Jachthuis Sint Hubertus, a hunting lodge designed by renowned architect Hendrik Berlage. Visitors can explore the vast area using the famous 'White Bikes,' which are provided free of charge at the park entrances. De Hoge Veluwe is also a sanctuary for red deer, mouflons, and wild boar, offering excellent wildlife viewing opportunities. Operating as a private foundation, the park is funded almost entirely through entrance fees and donations.
