Tanintharyi Nature Reserve (Myanmar (Burma))

Weather…

The Tanintharyi Nature Reserve is located in southern Myanmar, covering an area of approximately 1,700 square kilometers across the Dawei and Ye districts. Established in 2005, the reserve was created largely as a compensatory measure for the environmental impacts of major natural gas pipeline projects in the region. It protects critical sections of tropical lowland rainforest, which are among the most biodiverse habitats in mainland Southeast Asia. The reserve is home to a wide array of endangered wildlife, including Asian elephants, tigers, and clouded leopards, as well as numerous endemic plant species. Geographically, it occupies the foothills of the Tenasserim Range, experiencing high annual rainfall that sustains its lush vegetation. The reserve serves as a vital component of the trans-border conservation landscape, connecting wildlife habitats between Myanmar and several national parks in neighboring Thailand.
