Plužine

Plužine is a relatively young town in northwestern Montenegro with an extraordinary origin story. The original settlement area was submerged in the 1970s following the construction of the Mratinje Dam and the subsequent creation of the Piva Reservoir. Today's town was built entirely from scratch on a higher plateau overlooking the new lake, making it one of the most modern urban centers in the region. Plužine is located within the dramatic scenery of the Piva Canyon and serves as the primary gateway for exploring the Piva Nature Park. The local economy is deeply integrated with the electricity production of the Piva Hydroelectric Plant, though nature-based tourism is becoming increasingly vital.
