SmartCity Malta (Malta)

Weather…

SmartCity Malta is a modern technology and business park located in Ricasoli, Kalkara, designed after the model of Dubai Internet City and Dubai Media City. The project was initiated in 2007 through an agreement between the Maltese government and Dubai Holding, aiming to establish Malta as a leading hub for the digital economy in the Mediterranean. Spanning over 360,000 square meters, the complex provides state-of-the-art office spaces, research centers, as well as residential and leisure areas. The infrastructure is tailored to attract international companies from the information and communications technology (ICT) and media sectors. Beyond its economic aspects, SmartCity features a public promenade and the Laguna, a water feature that serves as a social hub. Despite initial delays in full implementation, the site remains an important symbol of Malta's ambition to diversify its economy beyond tourism and traditional industry.

What is this place?
SmartCity Malta represents a highly ambitious commercial project envisioned to serve as an advanced technological hub for modern ICT and diverse media companies. It acts as a cornerstone for Malta's transition into a digital economy, intending to bring international investments and foster an innovative working environment on the island.
🚪
Visiting
The exterior public spaces, promenades, and commercial dining zones of the park are generally open to casually strolling tourists and everyday local visitors. However, the actual corporate office interiors and specialized technology hubs operate under standard business security and are logically restricted to authorized employees or registered guests.
👀
Where to view it
You can freely observe the impressive modern architectural designs and sleek office facades from the central landscaped plazas and the scenic seaside walkways. The thoughtfully illuminated central lagoon area features a particularly attractive vantage point, providing a striking contemporary contrast against the natural Mediterranean coastal backdrop.
🧺
Local products
Being a contemporary business development rather than an agricultural or historical site, the retail focus here leans heavily toward modern cafes, international restaurants, and convenience services. Travelers won't find traditional Maltese handicrafts, but they can easily enjoy modern Mediterranean culinary experiences and premium waterfront dining options.
📆
Active season
The corporate facilities naturally bustle with professional energy during typical weekday working hours when tech employees populate the complex. In contrast, the restaurants and the central musical fountain area often become notably livelier during the warm summer evenings and weekends, attracting families and casual sightseers.
Nearby
After taking in the modern technological atmosphere, you can easily transition to exploring the deeply historical fortified Three Cities area, located just a brief drive away. This specific combination allows tourists to seamlessly experience Malta's cutting-edge commercial future immediately alongside its rich maritime and knightly heritage.
