Fgura is a modern residential town in southeastern Malta that features a relatively young history compared to its medieval neighbours like the Three Cities. Originally a rural hamlet with scattered farmhouses, Fgura experienced explosive population growth following the Second World War. During the 1960s and 1970s, it evolved into a significant commercial hub, with a variety of businesses lining its main thoroughfare, Triq Hompesch. The town is characterized by contemporary architecture, most notably its parish church dedicated to Our Lady of Mount Carmel, consecrated in 1988, which features a striking tent-like design. Despite its modern urban character, traces of prehistoric and Punic settlements, including ancient tombs, were discovered during construction projects in the mid-20th century. Today, Fgura stands as one of the most densely populated localities on the islands, serving as a vital link between the Grand Harbour region and the southern villages of Malta.
