💡 Tips
- Visit the 'Chinese Garden of Serenity,' the town's crown jewel, and notice the symbolism of the paths representing different stages of life.
- Walk across the zig-zag bridge in the garden; in Chinese philosophy, evil spirits can only move in straight lines, so the bridge protects the sanctuary.
- Pack a picnic, as the Garden of Serenity is one of the few public spaces in Malta where a quiet outdoor lunch is truly enjoyable.
- Combine your trip with a visit to the nearby Tarxien Temples or the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, both just a few minutes away by bus.
- Use the jogging track that surrounds the village like a green belt for a peaceful evening stroll among the local residents.
🍽 Food
Grab these fresh, savory pastries from the local confectionery in the village square for a cheap and tasty snack.
Visit local hangouts like Lulu's Pub for a cold Cisk beer and typical Maltese appetizers among the residents.
For a full meal, head to nearby Paola (5 mins away) which gives a wider range of highly-rated Italian and Mediterranean eateries.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
This large shopping mall is just a 5-minute drive away and features international brands and fashion stores.
Browse the small community stores in the village center for Maltese snacks and daily essentials.
Located on the west side of the Chinese Garden, this is the most peaceful spot to sit and watch the central lake.
Visit the historic chapel dedicated to St. Lucy on the outskirts for a quiet, reflective atmosphere away from the village core.

Santa Luċija is one of Malta's newest localities, officially established as an independent community only in 1961. The town was conceived as a planned residential development to provide modern housing for the growing population in the southeastern part of the island. In contrast to the older, densely packed villages, Santa Luċija is characterized by wide streets, abundant green spaces, and an open urban layout. Its most famous landmark is the Chinese Garden of Serenity, an authentic Chinese garden that was a gift from the People's Republic of China to Malta. Opened in 1997, this garden has a peaceful retreat with its traditional ponds, pagodas, and stone bridges. Santa Luċija is also home to a small but significant underground prehistoric site, discovered in 1973 during roadworks, which dates back to the Tarxien phase of Maltese prehistory. Despite its modern origins, the town has fostered a strong communal identity and stands as a model for a quiet, family-oriented residential environment in Malta.
