Ghar Lapsi (Malta)

Weather…

Ghar Lapsi is a pretty natural cove and grotto located on the southern coast of Malta, near the village of Siġġiewi. The name translates to Cave of the Ascension in Maltese, originating from its historical use by local fishermen who maintained a small shrine there. The cove is surrounded by high limestone cliffs and features shallow, turquoise waters that are naturally sheltered from the open sea by rock formations. This makes it a popular destination for snorkeling and diving, as the underwater cave system allows sunlight to penetrate, creating lively light displays. The shore is dotted with traditional boat houses, maintaining an authentic atmosphere largely untouched by commercial tourism. From the cliffs above, visitors enjoy panoramic views of the uninhabited islet of Filfla. Ghar Lapsi also serves as a trailhead for coastal walks that wind through the rugged landscape towards the prehistoric temple sites of Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra.
