Filitheyo Kandu (Maldives)

Weather…

Filitheyo Kandu is a spectacular channel dive site in the North Nilandhe Atoll (Faafu Atoll), renowned for its pristine coral growth and abundant pelagic activity. Located on the eastern edge of the atoll, the channel features wide openings that funnel nutrient-rich waters into the lagoon during incoming tides. The north and south corners of the channel are adorned with magnificent soft corals, sea fans, and massive hard coral structures thriving between 15 and 30 meters deep. Filitheyo Kandu acts as a magnet for grey reef sharks, whitetip reef sharks, and occasionally whale sharks or manta rays patrolling the blue water. The channel walls are punctuated by numerous caves and overhangs, providing sanctuary for soldierfish and large groupers. As part of the Maldives' broader initiative to safeguard biodiversity in less-visited atolls, this area is carefully monitored to track and mitigate the impacts of climate change on coral reef health.
