Ferentino is one of Italy's oldest cities, located in the Ciociaria region and renowned for its monumental Cyclopean walls. Legend attributes its foundation to the god Saturn, and it served as a major center for the Hernici people before falling under Roman control. The Acropolis of Ferentino is a masterpiece of ancient engineering, featuring foundations of massive limestone blocks fitted together without mortar, topped by Roman structures such as the theater and the market. During the Middle Ages, Ferentino flourished as a favored residence for several popes, which is evident in the grand architecture of the Cathedral of Saints John and Paul. This cathedral houses precious 12th-century mosaic floors created by the Cosmati school. Beyond its ancient ruins, Ferentino is famous for its thermal springs, which have been valued for their healing properties since Roman times. The town maintains a distinct medieval atmosphere with its narrow alleys and numerous historic palaces.
