Arnara is a characteristic hill town in the province of Frosinone, situated at an elevation of 330 meters above sea level. The town was first mentioned in historical documents in the 11th century and developed around a medieval fortress, the Castello dei Conti d'Aquino. This castle served for centuries as an important defensive point in the Sacco Valley and continues to dominate the townscape with its massive walls and towers. Arnara was long part of the Papal States and was under the influence of powerful noble families of the region. The local economy is traditionally agricultural, with the cultivation of olives and grapes, and the production of high-quality olive oil playing a central role. The historic center preserves its original medieval structure with narrow alleys and stone buildings that convey a peaceful, timeless atmosphere. Every year, the town celebrates significant religious festivals, such as the feast of its patron saint, Saint Sebastian, which are deeply rooted in local culture. Arnara provides wide views over the surrounding hills of Ciociaria and serves as an example of the preservation of rural traditions in Lazio.
