Lake Chamo is located in southern Ethiopia near the city of Arba Minch and forms part of the Nechisar National Park. Situated at an elevation of 1,108 meters, the lake covers an area of approximately 317 square kilometers. It is world-renowned for its 'Crocodile Market,' a shoreline area where hundreds of giant Nile crocodiles congregate to bask in the sun. In addition to these massive reptiles, the lake supports a large population of hippopotamuses and an impressive variety of water birds, such as pelicans and African fish eagles. The lake is fed primarily by the Kulfo River and is separated from the northern Lake Abaya by a narrow neck of land known as the 'Bridge of God.' Fishing is a vital economic activity for the local Gamo people, with Nile perch being one of the most significant catches. The scenic beauty of the lake, framed by the green hills of Arba Minch and the vast Nechisar plains, makes it a premier destination for nature lovers.
