The Limmu coffee region is situated in southwestern Ethiopia within the Oromia Region, to the west of the well-known Jimma zone. The cultivation area spans elevations from 1,100 to 1,900 meters and is marked by dense forests and high annual rainfall. Geographically, Limmu benefits from a stable ecosystem where coffee often grows wild or in semi-wild forest plots. Limmu coffee is recognized for its medium body, balanced acidity, and a distinctive sweet-spicy flavor profile, often with wine-like undertones. Historically, the region holds significant importance as it is closely linked to the origins of coffee, and traditional 'forest coffee' methods are still prevalent. Processing is mostly carried out using the wet method, resulting in a very clean and consistent final product. Today, Limmu is a respected name among specialty coffee roasters who seek a well-rounded and balanced Ethiopian cup.
