Perched on a high plateau at an elevation of approximately 2,730 meters, the town overlooks the dramatic gorges of the Blue Nile River. Historically, Fiche was the seat of Ras Kassa Haile Mariam, a prominent Ethiopian nobleman and military leader during the early 20th century. The town’s heritage is reflected in its architecture, notably the St. George Church and the historical residences of former aristocrats. Due to its high altitude, Fiche experiences a cool climate, which is convenient for the cultivation of highland crops such as barley, wheat, and teff.
