Ještěd Tower (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The Ještěd Tower is a 94-meter-tall structure situated on the summit of Ještěd Mountain near Liberec at an elevation of 1,012 meters. Constructed between 1966 and 1973 based on the designs of architect Karel Hubáček, it functions as a television transmitter, hotel, and restaurant. The building is renowned for its unique hyperboloid shape, which seamlessly extends the silhouette of the mountain while providing aerodynamic stability against extreme weather conditions. Hubáček was awarded the prestigious Auguste Perret Prize by the International Union of Architects in 1969 for this innovative design. The construction utilizes reinforced concrete for the lower floors and a combination of steel and specialized plastics in the upper sections to ensure radio wave transparency. Today, the tower stands as a premier example of modern Czech architecture and was officially designated a national cultural monument in 2006.
