Historic Centre of Telč (Czech Republic)

Weather…

The historic centre of Telč is world-renowned for its unique town square, lined with magnificent burgher houses featuring tall gables and elegant arcades. These houses were originally built in the Gothic style but were reconstructed with uniform Renaissance and Baroque facades after a major fire in the 16th century. The square's layout is regarded as one of the best-preserved examples of urban planning in Central Europe. The town's dominant landmark is Telč Chateau, a former water fortress transformed into a grand Renaissance residence under Zacharias of Neuhaus in the 16th century. The Golden Hall of the chateau is particularly noted for its richly decorated wooden coffered ceiling. The town is surrounded by several ponds that once served as defensive barriers. Due to its exceptional architectural harmony, the historic centre was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1992.
