Getting there
The famously small, mountainous island is best reached by regular ferry from the closely neighboring island of Fogo, as there is currently no functioning, commercial airport available here for any visitors.
Best season
The remarkably temperate, wetter climate ensures spirited green landscapes almost year-round, though the beautiful months shortly following the wetter summer are visually often the most lush and spectacular.
Terrain & paths
The rugged topography is unmistakably characterized by very steep cliffs, deep valleys, and tightly winding mountain roads, which can often make general travel and traversal enormously challenging in some parts.
What to bring
Good, highly sturdy hiking boots and a robust, fully windproof jacket are absolutely recommended when you wish to safely explore the often extremely steep coastal paths and the noticeably damp, elevated terrain.

In the relatively few, small rural villages across the island, you can usually park without any complication directly on the roadside; motorized traffic is generally extremely light and sparse on this tranquil island.
Safety
The extremely deep, steep drop-offs and the sometimes unpredictably slippery paths immediately following heavy rainfall require constant, focused attention; you should never step too close to unsecured cliff edges.
