Réo is the capital of Sanguié Province in the Centre-Ouest Region of Burkina Faso, located about 15 kilometers northwest of the larger city of Koudougou. The town is the cultural epicenter of the Lyélé (or Lele), a subgroup of the Gourounsi people, whose social organization and artistic earthen architecture are widely known. Geographically, Réo lies in a zone with relatively favorable rainfall, allowing for productive farming, particularly the cultivation of tubers such as yams and sweet potatoes, as well as onions. Historically, Réo was an important center of resistance against colonial power and has maintained its strong sense of independence and cultural identity to this day. The town's economy is heavily agricultural, with the local market serving as a key distribution point for agricultural produce from across Sanguié. Réo has a solid basic infrastructure, including administrative offices, several schools, and religious institutions that play an important role in social life. In recent years, Réo has developed into a center for artisan training and the promotion of local initiatives in sustainable agriculture. Cultural festivals celebrating Lyélé music and dance regularly attract visitors and strengthen community cohesion. The town serves as a vital link between the regional capital Koudougou and the western parts of the country. Réo remains a place where traditions stay alive while modern development goals are pursued.
