Christ the Redeemer (Brazil)

Weather…

The Christ the Redeemer statue (Cristo Redentor) stands atop the 710-meter summit of Corcovado Mountain in Rio de Janeiro. Inaugurated on October 12, 1931, the monument was planned to celebrate the centenary of Brazil's independence. The statue is 30 meters high, rests on an 8-meter pedestal, and has an arm span of 28 meters. It was designed by Brazilian engineer Heitor da Silva Costa and French sculptor Paul Landowski. The construction consists of reinforced concrete covered with a mosaic layer of soapstone to withstand harsh weather conditions. In 2007, the monument was elected one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. It serves not only as a religious symbol but also as a global emblem of Brazil. The panoramic view from the summit encompasses landmarks such as Sugarloaf Mountain, Maracanã Stadium, and Copacabana. It is one of the most visited sites in the world and a masterpiece of the Art Deco style.
