The ascent to the temple involves thousands of stone steps leading through dense subtropical vegetation, used by tens of thousands of pilgrims, especially during the annual Shiva Chaturdashi festival. Geographically, the hill marks the southern spur of the Himalayan mountain system before it transitions into the coastal plain of the Bay of Bengal.
