Old Bight is a historically rich settlement located in the southern region of Cat Island in the Bahamas. The village is famously home to St. Jude’s Anglican Church, a distinctive structure designed and built in the mid-20th century by the renowned architect-priest Father Jerome. Geographically, Old Bight is positioned near Armbrister Creek, a serene waterway bordered by ancient mangroves that provides an excellent environment for eco-tourism and birdwatching. The area's history is deeply intertwined with the 18th-century plantation era, evidenced by the nearby ruins of the DeVaux Plantation house, once owned by a prominent loyalist. Today, the community sustains itself through artisanal fishing and small-scale farming, continuing Cat Island's legacy as a fertile agricultural hub. The shoreline at Old Bight features vast, undeveloped pink and white sand beaches that remain some of the quietest in the archipelago. Its proximity to Mount Alvernia, the highest point in the Bahamas, adds to its significance as a cultural and geographic center.
