The Malanje Plateau in northwestern Angola is an expansive upland region renowned for its spectacular geological features and vital agricultural output. Averaging between 1,000 and 1,200 meters in elevation, the plateau enjoys a humid tropical climate that supports large-scale cultivation of cotton, sugarcane, and tobacco. Its most iconic landmarks include the Kalandula Falls, one of Africa's largest waterfalls by volume, and the mysterious Black Rocks of Pungo Andongo, massive monolithic formations that rise abruptly from the savanna. Geologically, the plateau is characterized by sedimentary rock layers uplifted by ancient tectonic forces and carved by river systems. Historically, the area was a stronghold of the Ndongo and Matamba kingdoms, notably under the leadership of Queen Njinga Mbandi. Today, the Malanje Plateau is a priority zone for Angola's agricultural redevelopment and ecotourism growth, blending its rich cultural heritage with modern industrial potential.
