💡 Tips
- The Mina de Llorts (Iron Mine) is a very chilly, damp environment; definitely bring a warm jacket even in mid-summer.
- The Ruta del Ferro (Iron Route) starts here. It's a flat, easy walk dotted with modern iron sculptures, highly recommended for all ages.
- Parking right at the mine entrance is limited. Arrive early or use the spots slightly further down the road.
- Guided tours of the mine often need to be booked in advance during the busy summer months.
🍽 Food
Warm up after the mine with a hearty bowl of Escudella or local game stew at a borda along the CG-3 road.
Look for platters of traditional Andorran cured meats (embotits) offered as starters in local village restaurants.
Grab a strong espresso at a local cafe in neighboring Ordino before starting your walk along the Iron Route.
🛍 Shopping · 🧘 Quiet spots
Check the small reception area at the mine or tourist shops in Ordino for small items celebrating the iron heritage.
Keep an eye out for artisanal high-mountain honey sold in small shops or pharmacies in the valley.
Stroll along the Valira del Nord river on the Iron Route; the sound of the water is incredibly relaxing.
Wander through the narrow, stone-paved streets of Llorts itself to admire the untouched traditional Pyrenean architecture.

Llorts is a historically significant village in the parish of Ordino, located in northern Andorra. It is primarily known for its centuries-old tradition of ironworking, which is now celebrated through the 'Ruta del Ferro' (Iron Route). A main attraction is the Llorts Mine, which was operational in the 19th century and now features visitors insights into the grueling work of miners. The village sits at an elevation of about 1,410 meters on the banks of the Valira del Nord river and has preserved its authentic appearance with narrow streets and traditional stone houses. The Church of Sant Serni de Llorts, a small Romanesque building, testifies to the deep religious roots of its inhabitants. Surrounded by steep mountains and dense forests, Llorts gives a peaceful atmosphere away from the major commercial centers. In the past, the village was a vital stop for transporting ores to the local forges (fargues). Today, it is a starting point for hikes to the Estany de l'Estanyó and other high-altitude lakes. Agriculture, particularly sheep farming, still plays a role in the local economy. Llorts is essentially a living museum of Andorran industrial history.
