Victoria Falls Bridge (Zimbabwe)

Weather…

The Victoria Falls Bridge is a masterpiece of early 20th-century engineering, spanning the Zambezi River on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. Completed in 1905, the bridge was part of Cecil Rhodes' vision for a Cape to Cairo railway connection. It was designed by George Andrew Hobson, with the structure prefabricated in England before being shipped to the site. Featuring a span of 156 meters and a height of 128 meters above the water level, it gives spectacular views of Victoria Falls and the gorge below. The steel arch bridge serves both rail and road traffic and remains a vital hub for trade in Southern Africa. Beyond its functional importance, it is now a world-famous destination for bungee jumping and bridge tours. The official opening was performed by Professor George Darwin, son of Charles Darwin, emphasizing the scientific and technical significance of the project at the time.
