Gia Nghĩa is the capital of Đắk Nông Province in Vietnam's Central Highlands and represents a burgeoning economic hub in a region of exceptional natural beauty. The city is set in a hilly landscape characterized by deep-red basaltic soils, which provide convenient conditions for the cultivation of high-quality coffee, pepper, and cocoa. It was only in 2004 that Đắk Nông Province was split from Đắk Lắk, leading to a period of rapid urban development for Gia Nghĩa. Nearby, spectacular waterfalls such as Liêng Nung are located amidst dense jungle, highlighting the region's vast tourism potential. Culturally, the city is a melting pot of various indigenous peoples, including the M'Nông, who maintain a rich tradition in elephant taming and weaving arts. Gia Nghĩa also serves as a gateway to the Đắk Nông UNESCO Global Geopark, which is internationally renowned for its extensive volcanic cave systems. Modern urban planning in the city integrates numerous green spaces and lakes to preserve its character as a garden city in the highlands.
