Saint Martha's House (Vatican)

Weather…

The Saint Martha House (Domus Sanctae Marthae) is a modern building in Vatican City that primarily serves as a residence for clergy visiting or working for the Holy See. It was completed in 1996 under Pope John Paul II, replacing the old Saint Martha hospice. The building features 106 suites and 22 single rooms, which serve as accommodation for cardinal electors during a conclave, providing them with more comfort than the improvised quarters previously used in the Apostolic Palace. The house gained global fame when Pope Francis decided, following his election in 2013, to live permanently in Suite 201 instead of moving into the official papal apartments in the Apostolic Palace. He utilizes the house's dining room and chapel for his daily communal life and early morning masses.
