Rocky Mountain National Park, located in northern Colorado, was established on January 26, 1915, by President Woodrow Wilson and encompasses approximately 1,075 square kilometers. The park is bisected by the Continental Divide, which results in starkly different ecosystems on the eastern and western slopes. The eastern side is generally drier and features glaciated valleys, while the western side is more humid and heavily forested. A highlight of the park is Trail Ridge Road, the highest continuous paved highway in the United States, reaching elevations over 3,700 meters and providing expansive views of the alpine tundra. The highest point is Longs Peak at 4,346 meters, a premier destination for experienced mountaineers. The park supports a wide range of wildlife, including large herds of elk, bighorn sheep, and black bears. With over 4 million annual visitors, the park is a major hub for hiking, climbing, and wildlife photography. Its designation as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve highlights its critical role in preserving high-altitude habitats.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
