The highest point is Longs Peak at 4,346 meters, a premier destination for experienced mountaineers. Best season
Rocky Mountain National Park is open year-round, but the best time for wildlife viewing is summer (June to August) and early fall (September to October). In winter, many animals retreat to lower elevations.
Best time of day
Early morning and dusk are when bighorn sheep, deer, and elk are most active. These times also offer the best light for photographers and avoid the largest crowds.
Etiquette
Keep at least 25 meters away from all wildlife - for elk and bears maintain 100 meters. Never feed animals, as it disrupts their natural behavior and can be dangerous.
What to bring
Binoculars and a camera with a zoom lens are essential for wildlife viewing. Hiking boots with good traction, weatherproof clothing, and plenty of water are recommended at high altitude.

The park is about 90 minutes from Denver and reachable via Trail Ridge Road (US-34). During the winter season some roads are closed; check current conditions in advance.
