Kékéli Efficient Power Plant (Togo)

Weather…

The Kékéli Efficient Power plant, located in the port area of Lomé, is a landmark project for Togo's energy independence. It is a combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant with an installed capacity of 65 megawatts, which reached full operational status in 2021. By utilizing combined-cycle technology, the plant increases efficiency by capturing waste heat from the gas turbine to produce additional electricity through a steam turbine. The project was realized as a public-private partnership (PPP) with a total investment of approximately 110 million USD. Natural gas serves as the primary fuel source, which is significantly cleaner than traditional heavy fuel oils used in older plants. The facility provides stable electricity to more than 1.5 million people and plays a crucial role in the government's plan to achieve 100% electrification by 2030. Its integration into the national grid has significantly reduced the country's reliance on power imports from neighboring states.
