Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya served as the magnificent capital of the Siamese Kingdom from 1350 to 1767, once regarded as one of the world's largest urban centers. The city was strategically built on an island surrounded by three rivers: the Chao Phraya, the Pa Sak, and the Lop Buri. During its golden age, it functioned as a global trading hub, attracting diplomats and merchants from across Europe and Asia, which is evident in the architectural diversity of its ruins. In 1767, the city was almost entirely destroyed by the Burmese army after a lengthy siege, leading to the ultimate collapse of the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Today, the surviving temple complexes, such as Wat Phra Si Sanphet and Wat Mahathat, are part of the UNESCO World Heritage list. The modern city has grown around the historical park, maintaining the legacy of the former capital through cultural festivals and rigorous archaeological conservation. Ayutthaya remains a vital symbol of Thai heritage and national history.
