Mbeya Cement Factory (Tanzania)

Weather…

The Mbeya Cement Factory is located in the Songwe Region of southwestern Tanzania, near the city of Mbeya. Established in 1983, it was a key project for the industrialization of the Southern Highlands. The plant utilizes local mineral deposits to manufacture cement for the regional market and for export to neighboring Zambia and Malawi. Originally a state-owned enterprise, it became part of the LafargeHolcim group (now Holcim) following privatization. The factory is a significant employer in a primarily agricultural region and supports numerous social corporate responsibility initiatives. Due to its strategic location along the TAZARA corridor, the plant enjoys excellent logistical links to neighboring SADC countries. Recent modernizations have improved the energy efficiency of its kilns and boosted production capacity to over 600,000 tons per year.
