Lotus Pond is a scenic artificial lake in the Zuoying District of Kaohsiung, famous for its numerous temples and traditional pavilions. Opened in 1951, the lake is surrounded by architectural landmarks, the most recognizable being the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas. Visitors enter through the dragon's mouth and exit through the tiger's, a ritual believed to turn bad luck into good fortune. Other significant sites include the Spring and Autumn Pavilions and the massive statue of Xuan Wu at the Pei Chi Pavilion, which stands tall over the water. The pond is also home to one of Taiwan's largest Confucius Temples, which reflects classical Chinese architecture. During the summer, the lake is covered in blooming lotus flowers, adding to its spirituall and aesthetic appeal. It remains a major center for religious activities and cultural tourism in southern Taiwan, drawing visitors with its colorful and symbolic structures.
