Guanshan, standing at an elevation of 3,668 meters, is one of the most significant peaks in the southern section of Taiwan's Central Mountain Range. Due to its striking, almost symmetrical triangular shape, it is often referred to as the "Pyramid of the South." Geologically, the mountain belongs to Taiwan's metamorphic zone and is primarily composed of hard sandstone and slate, which contributes to its sharp and stable silhouette. It is located in the southern reaches of the Yushan National Park, one of East Asia's most important conservation areas. Historically, summiting Guanshan was a demanding task for early explorers due to its isolated location and steep ridges. The high-altitude flora is characterized by alpine grasslands and stands of Taiwan fir, which are well-adapted to the harsh climatic conditions. Today, the peak is a coveted goal for hikers seeking the solitude of the southern highlands. On clear days, the summit provides an expansive view across southern Taiwan and out toward the Pacific Ocean.
