Kismayo Port (Somalia)

Weather…

The Port of Kismayo is located in southern Somalia on the Indian Ocean coast, in the Jubaland region. It is a natural deepwater port and the second most important port in the country after Mogadishu. The port has two main berths with a total length of about 300 meters and a water depth of up to 10 meters. Historically, it was a key export point for bananas and other agricultural products from the fertile Juba Valley. After being damaged during the civil war, the port was partially rehabilitated with support from international organizations such as IOM and the Somali government. Today, it primarily handles imports of food and fuel for southern Somalia. The port is also used by the Somali Navy and holds strategic importance for regional security. Annual cargo throughput is estimated at 500,000 tonnes. Challenges include limited infrastructure, operational inefficiency, and security threats from Al-Shabaab militants. Efforts to expand and improve the port are ongoing, but funding and stability remain issues.
