Amitié is a small, tranquil settlement in the western part of Praslin Island, located right next to the local Praslin Island Airport. The name means "friendship" in French and refers back to an old plantation whose owners granted freed workers shares in the coconut fields as a token of good neighborly relations. The main road connects Amitié to the larger settlements of Grand Anse and Anse Kerlan; along the road one finds small Creole guesthouses, self-catering bungalows, and a handful of family-run restaurants. Characteristic are the low timber houses with corrugated metal roofs and small gardens in which tropical fruits such as mango, sapote, and breadfruit grow. In front of the settlement stretches a flat beach popular with locals as a family bathing spot thanks to its shallow water and calm atmosphere. Amitié is a good example of how Praslin has preserved its Creole village character away from the main tourist axes.
