Baie Sainte Anne lies on the eastern coast of Praslin and forms the island's most important maritime gateway: here dock the fast ferries operated by Cat Cocos and Inter Island Ferry, providing daily connections to Mahé and La Digue. The harbor was expanded throughout the twentieth century and today ranks as the second-largest port in the Seychelles after Victoria. The bay is sheltered by offshore islets such as Curieuse, Chauve Souris, and St. Pierre, which makes it a popular base for boat tours and snorkeling excursions. In the village stand an old Catholic church from the late nineteenth century and the administrative office for the Praslin district. Life in Baie Sainte Anne traditionally revolved around fishing and boat building, but in recent decades tourism and logistics have transformed the settlement profoundly. A local specialty is the Praslin-style octopus curry, whose recipes have been passed down through generations of Creole families.
