Tapion Point Battery (St. Lucia)

Weather…

Tapion Point Battery is a significant historic military site guarding the southern entrance to Castries Harbor in Saint Lucia. During the colonial era, this location was a vital component of the British defense system, designed to protect the island's main port from rival naval forces, primarily the French. In coordination with the Vigie Battery on the northern headland, Tapion Point could trap any approaching enemy vessel in a deadly crossfire. Visitors today can wander through the remnants of the stone fortifications and see the old cannon emplacements that once housed heavy artillery. The site was also home to a British military hospital, of which only haunting ruins remain today. Beyond its historical value, Tapion Point is an exceptional lookout spot. It provides an unobstructed view of the massive cruise ships as they navigate the narrow entrance to Castries Harbor, framed by the sparkling Caribbean Sea. It is a peaceful place to reflect on the island's strategic maritime history while enjoying one of the best coastal panoramas in the vicinity of the capital.
