The Princely Court of Vaslui (Curtea Domnească) is a major historical and archaeological site in Moldavia, deeply connected to the reign of Stephen the Great (Ștefan cel Mare). Established in the 15th century, it served as a vital administrative and military command center, as well as a residence for the Moldavian rulers during their travels through the southern part of the principality. The centerpiece of the complex is the Church of St. John the Baptist, founded by Stephen the Great in 1490 to commemorate his monumental victory over the Ottoman forces at the Battle of Vaslui (Podul Înalt) in 1475. Archaeological excavations have revealed the foundations of the princely palace, defensive walls, and massive cellars that highlight the architectural sophistication of the medieval period. The church exhibits the classic Moldavian style, blending Byzantine floor plans with Gothic window details and colorful glazed ceramic decorations on its exterior facades. Today, the Princely Court functions as an open-air museum, documenting the strategic importance of Vaslui in the defense of Moldavia. It stands as a symbol of national resilience and a testament to the cultural and spiritual flourishing of the 15th century under the Mușatin dynasty.
