Green Forest

Green Forest (Pădurea Verde), located in the northeast of Timișoara, serves as the city's primary recreational area and vital green lung. Spanning approximately 724 hectares, the forest consists mainly of oak, ash, and maple trees, representing a remnant of the ancient forests that once covered the Banat Plain. Historically, during the 18th century, it was designated as an imperial hunting ground under Habsburg administration, subject to early forestry management practices. Today, the area integrates nature with culture, housing the Banat Village Museum and the Timișoara Zoological Garden within its perimeter. Its ecological importance is paramount for the city's microclimate, acting as a natural air filter and temperature regulator. Despite its urban proximity, it remains a biodiversity hotspot, providing a sanctuary for deer, foxes, and numerous bird species inhabiting its mature tree stands.
