The Constanța Aquarium, located on the city's waterfront promenade directly opposite the famous Casino, was inaugurated in 1958 as the first public aquarium in Romania. Designed by architect A. Busch, the building was specifically constructed to house a diverse collection of aquatic life organized into three main sections: Marine, Freshwater, and Exotic. The Marine section focuses on Black Sea fauna, showcasing various species of sturgeons, stingrays, and seahorses. Its collection of sturgeons is regarded as one of the most scientifically valuable in Europe. The Freshwater section displays native fish species from the Danube Delta and Romanian lakes, providing insight into the region's riverine biodiversity. In the Exotic section, visitors can see tropical fish from Africa, the Americas, and Asia, such as piranhas and colorful reef inhabitants. Beyond its role as a major tourist attraction, the aquarium serves as an educational center for marine biology and environmental conservation, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.
