Idanre Hill (Nigeria)

Weather…

Idanre Hill, also known as Oke Idanre, is situated in Ondo State in southwestern Nigeria and stands as one of the most impressive natural and cultural landscapes in the country. These massive granitic domes rise approximately 914 meters above sea level and provided a natural fortress for the local community against invaders for centuries. The history of the settlement on the hills spans over 800 years, with the population eventually migrating to the valley floor in the early 20th century. Significant historical structures remain on the plateau, including the Owa's Palace, an ancient court of justice, and various sacred shrines central to Yoruba religious practices. Since 2007, the site has been on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List, recognized for its exceptional fusion of geological beauty and human history. To reach the ancient settlement, visitors must climb 682 steps, passing through diverse ecological zones that house unique flora and fauna endemic to the region.
