The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam is dedicated to the life and work of the renowned Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. It houses the world's largest collection of his art, featuring more than 200 paintings, 400 drawings, and 700 letters. The museum opened in 1973 on the Museumplein, with the main building designed by architect Gerrit Rietveld. In 1999, a new exhibition wing designed by Japanese architect Kisho Kurokawa was added to provide space for temporary displays. The collection chronicles Van Gogh’s artistic progression from his somber early Dutch works to the vivid masterpieces produced during his time in France. In addition to Van Gogh’s creations, the museum exhibits works by his contemporaries, such as Gauguin and Monet, to provide historical context. Today, it ranks among the most visited art museums globally and serves as a primary hub for post-impressionist research.
