Kirtipur Old Town (Nepal)

Weather…

Kirtipur is an ancient city in the Kathmandu Valley, founded in the 12th century. It served as a vital trade hub and a stronghold of Newar culture. In 1768, Prithvi Narayan Shah besieged the city during his conquest of the valley. The defenders resisted fiercely, causing heavy casualties on both sides. After the capture, Shah ordered the partial destruction of the city and the mutilation of its male inhabitants. Today, narrow streets and traditional brick houses reflect its rich past. The Bag Bhairab Temple, built in the 16th century, is a significant shrine. Kirtipur is also known for its weaving tradition, especially Dhaka fabrics. The city sits on a hill about 5 km southwest of Kathmandu, offering panoramic valley views.
