Balaju Industrial District (Nepal)

Weather…

Balaju Industrial District (BID) was established in 1960 as the first planned industrial estate in Nepal, signaling the start of the nation's formal industrialization process. Located in the northwestern part of Kathmandu, it covers an area of approximately 57 hectares and currently accommodates over 100 diverse manufacturing units. The project was initially launched with assistance from the United States government to promote domestic production and reduce reliance on imported consumer goods. The district hosts a wide range of industries, including food processing, textiles, printing, pharmaceuticals, and furniture manufacturing. It provides critical infrastructure such as reliable power supply, water services, and internal road networks to its tenant companies. Despite the rapid urbanization of the surrounding areas, BID continues to serve as a major economic hub and a significant source of employment within the Kathmandu Valley.
