Moatize is an industrial powerhouse located in the Tete Province of western Mozambique. The town is situated in a geologically favored area containing some of the world's largest untapped coal reserves. Over the last two decades, Moatize has transformed from a small settlement into a modern mining town, driven by massive international investments in coal extraction. The town's infrastructure was fundamentally modernized with the construction of railway links to the Port of Beira (Sena Line) and the Port of Nacala. Geographically, the city lies near the Zambezi River, which supports its logistics and industrial water supply. Beyond mining, the town plays a critical role in the regional economy of Tete Province. However, this rapid development has also introduced social and environmental challenges that are being addressed through sustainability projects. The architecture of Moatize is defined by new residential areas for mining personnel and a growing commercial infrastructure. Today, Moatize is regarded as the engine of the Mozambican export economy in the raw materials sector.
