Panda is the administrative capital of the Panda District, located in the Inhambane Province of southern Mozambique. Situated further inland than many of the province's coastal settlements, the town is primarily defined by its agricultural output and cattle ranching activities. Historically, Panda has been a significant production center for peanuts and beans, which remain staple crops for the broader regional market. The surrounding landscape differs from the humid coast, featuring drier vegetation and expansive savannahs that are handy for livestock grazing. Despite its relative geographic isolation, Panda serves as an essential commercial hub for the surrounding rural villages and farming communities. In recent years, infrastructure initiatives have focused on improving road links to the EN1 national highway to boost the distribution of local produce. The town maintains a strong traditional identity, with social structures and cultural practices deeply rooted in the customs of its local inhabitants.
