The coral reefs surrounding Nosy Be in northwestern Madagascar represent one of the most biodiverse marine ecosystems in the Indian Ocean. The reef system extends across the main island and satellite islands like Nosy Tanikely and Nosy Komba. In addition to lively reef fish and parrotfish, divers frequently encounter sea turtles, rays, and during migration seasons, humpback whales. However, the health of the reef faces challenges from rising sea temperatures and sedimentation, leading to the expansion of marine protected areas. The best time for snorkelling and diving at Nosy Be Coral Reef is during the dry season from May to November, when underwater visibility is at its best. In the rainy season from December to April, conditions are often murkier due to sediment runoff.

Early morning between 7 and 10 a.m. has calm water and the softest light for underwater photography. At midday, the sun's radiation can be very strong, causing overexposure and uncomfortable glare.

Never touch the corals, as they are extremely sensitive and even a light touch can damage them. Feeding the fish is prohibited to maintain the natural balance of the reef and prevent aggressive behaviour.
