Cap Miné Lighthouse (Madagascar)

Weather…

The Cap Miné Lighthouse is a historic maritime beacon located at the northern tip of Madagascar, near the city of Antsiranana (Diego Suarez). It marks the strategic entrance to the Bay of Antsiranana, one of the largest natural bays in the world. The current tower was constructed in 1908 by the French colonial administration, replacing an earlier structure from the late 19th century. Featuring a characteristic white facade and a red lantern room, the lighthouse stands on a cliff approximately 43 meters above sea level. For over a century, it has served as an indispensable navigation aid for shipping, particularly for vessels crossing the Indian Ocean toward the Mozambique Channel. The area surrounding the lighthouse is defined by a rugged coastal landscape and former military fortifications dating back to the World Wars. A visit to the site provides dramatic views of the expansive bay and the powerful ocean surf. It remains a silent witness to the maritime history and strategic importance of northern Madagascar.
