Weather…

Amber Mountain National Park in northern Madagascar encompasses an isolated volcanic massif covered in lush tropical rainforest. Geographically, the park forms a green oasis amidst the dry savanna of the Diana region, reaching elevations of up to 1,475 meters. Its moist microclimate is responsible for the formation of numerous waterfalls and crater lakes that provide fresh water to the region. Established in 1958, the park is famous for its high rate of endemism, including seven species of lemurs and the tiny Brookesia chameleon. Botanically, the area impresses with giant ferns, orchids, and centuries-old giant trees often draped in moss and lichens. Trails lead past spectacular cascades such as the Grande Cascade, which plunges over 80 meters. Historically, the French colonial administration valued the massif as a cool retreat and a water reservoir for the nearby city of Antsiranana. Preserving this ecosystem is vital for the water balance of the entire northern part of the island.
