Walferdange is a municipality located in central Luxembourg within the strategically important Alzette river valley, situated just north of Luxembourg City. The municipality consists of the villages of Walferdange, Helmsange, and Bereldange, and features a settlement history dating back to Roman times. A significant archaeological landmark is the Roman villa in Helmsange, which was once among the largest of its kind in the region. In the 19th century, the town gained prominence through Walferdange Castle, constructed between 1824 and 1828 as a residence for William I of the Netherlands, and later serving as a home for Grand Duke Adolphe of Luxembourg. Today, the castle grounds house university and state facilities, marking the town as an important educational hub. Its geographic location between forested slopes and the Alzette plains defines its landscape, providing a high quality of life in close proximity to the nation's capital.
